The cabinet bed combination is not new, but anything on the market was not suited to the client's decor.

I set for myself the goal of matching the client's aesthetic, while using a minimum of visible hardware. To achieve much of the movement I designed wooden hinges with a removable metal threaded rod as a pivot that can be tightened to adjust the movement. My other goal was to make the assembly process as easy as possible with no tools needed or parts that need to be connected &/or disconnected. The other thing that bothered me about the existing cabinet beds is that the sides and top of the cabinet make the bed configuration feel claustrophobic. To solve this I made the top convert to part of the headboard when not is use and the sides transform into two matching side tables.

The cabinet configuration holds a folding mattress and the drawer is large enough to hold bedding and pillows.
