mid-century COUCH

I designed this for a customer who wanted an outdoor couch in the style of mid-century furniture, instead of the typically blocky and uncomfortable designs available. The muscular stance and robust joinery are balanced by the flowing contours of the armrests, legs and back.

This is a large couch with spacious seating for 4 people. I wanted to avoid a ‘middle leg’ or other support, instead using a large base-beam spanning the entire 9 feet. The heft of this beam is offset by adding a gentle curve across its length and a slim lip along the top edge. The result is extremely strong, yet elegant; easily supporting 4 adults without flex or sag.

Apart from the aesthetics of mid-century furniture one of the hallmarks are the supportive ergonomics which I meticulously dialed into the design, making the couch as comfortable as it is attractive.
